Unwinnable

Loki himself, – the supposed God of Mischief and Slayer of Balder the Brave or Scion of Frost Giants, depending on whether you were educated by ancient Viking texts or more recent Marvel movies – took one look at my 7-year-old daughter, beamed and handed over his prized white chocolate chip cookie. It’s time for the Academy to take the next step in evolution.

On Tuesday, the results of voting by the more than 5,700 movie industry insiders who make up the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be in. There will be five nominees for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, and by all accounts Andy Serkis will not be among them for his critically lauded turn in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

So because our opinions count (hey, we do have a website), we present to you, Dear Reader, the Worst of 2011. (more…)

Well, Isn’t She Precious?

The Dead Are Walking Again

There is no escape from the zombie infestation on The Walking Dead – executive producer Gale Anne Hurd even finds them shuffling along on line at craft services.

“When we have lunch – regardless if it’s the middle of the day or the middle of the night, we still call it lunch – we’re all sitting there in the lunchbox with the actors and the actresses who are playing zombies,” says Hurd. “It’s not as traumatizing as you’d think.” (more…)

The minute the series finale of Lost ended, fans were either men (and women) of faith and loved it or men (and women) of science who were ready to storm the beaches of the island in a rage over six wasted years. (more…)
