Last week, George Lucas announced he was selling Lucasfilm to the Disney Company. He also installed as his successor Lucasfilm co-chairman Kathleen Kennedy, who will be in charge of all future Star Wars films. Yes, that’s right – script treatments of an Episode VII exist, and plans for a whole new trilogy are already underway. Predictably, the Internet exploded. (more…)
It seems like a million years since I last played Quake 3. I can still remember sitting in my Los Angeles apartment, huddled in front of a monitor, hearing Bender tell my opponents to bite his shiny metal ass. I wasn’t terribly good at the game – I’d occasionally hit a winning streak and rain death down from the skies – but I did derive great pleasure from the game’s adrenaline-addled pace. I spawned, I acquired weapons, I killed and I died. I played until my eyes were bleary with gibs and the sound of rocket explosions rang in my ears. I took extra satisfaction from downloading every character skin and sound pack I could get my hands on. On a good night, I’d find myself in the midst of a pop culture slaughterhouse. Boba Fett, Krusty the Clown and RoboCop went toe-to-toe, spilling blood in ways that story bibles would never allow. (more…)

Unwinnable contributor Ebenezer Samuel had the opportunity to talk with famed videogame designer Warren Spector ahead of the launch of Epic Mickey. Among other things, they discussed Spector’s transition from Deus Ex to Disney:
“Before I got into electronic games, I was making table-top games,” Spector says. “I did a Rocky and Bullwinkle Game. I wrote my Master’s thesis on cartoons! To anyone who knows me, it’s like, well, it’s about time.
Warren Spector is a Disney fan. And with “Epic Mickey’s” release for the Nintendo Wii on Tuesday, his career has come full circle.
