Team Fortress 2 Engineer Update!

Valve is having a pretty big week and it has nothing to do with Portal 2 or the theoretically pending release of Half-life 2 Episode 3. For a certain group of gamers, this most anticipated news is that the Engineer update is finally upon us.
The Engineer a strong, proud, manly-man steeped in his Texan heritage. The product of an educated family with a knack for building, he is a true cog in the story behind the conflict that is Team Fortress 2. And now he has more guns.
Ah, Team Fortress 2. “America’s #1 war-themed hat simulator.”
From the endearing character design to the the continually evolving, surprisingly deep and impressively ridiculous backstory, Team Fortress 2 proves that a competitive online first person shooter with no single player campaign has as much narrative potential as any other kind of game.
Without giving anything away, I strongly recommend reading the latest Engineer-centric comic which explains much of the conflict between R.E.D. (Reliable Excavation Demolition) and B.L.U. (Builders League United), a rivalry that stretches back to the mid 1800′s.
There are no shortage of mysteries, though. Take, for instance, this inscription that is emblazoned on the Wrench Log, a Valve website tracking winners in a contest promoting the Engineer update:
AS IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE
WHO FOUGHT WHILE THEY SAT AROUND
PRESSING THE “CRAFT IT!” BUTTON
THE MEMORY OF THESE 100 HEROES
IS ENSHRINED FOREVER
It is strikingly similar to the famous inscription on the Lincoln Memorial:
AS IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE
FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE UNION
THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN
IS ENSHRINED FOREVER
Is that Valve’s way of validating recent rumors that the Pyro is actually President Lincoln? Only time will tell…
